You are bidding on one Weiss & Sohn iron or blade or cutter for a wood tongue molding or moulding plane as pictured.The iron is marked “WEISS & SOHN”.Width of the opening at the sharp end is about .280″ (about 9/32″) or about 7.2 mm, measured with dial calipers. Overall length is about 7-11/16″. It is tapered, about .170″ thick near the sharp end, and about .105″ thick near the upper end. Width of the tail is about 9/16″. It is a laminated iron.Johann Weiss made tools in Vienna, Austria, beginning in 1820. The company became Weiss & Sohn (and son) in 1845, and continued in business well into the 1940’s. It doesn’t appear to ever have been used, and appears to be NOS or New Old Stock. Condition is excellent, other than a few spots of light surface rust, including along the lamination line on the sharp edge. The dark surfaces on the top and bottom are the cast surface where it wasn’t machined at the factory. That is not a flaw, that is just how they were made. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it’s not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20″ long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30″ long, because those longer packages won’t fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay.
