PLEASE NOTE : In the following description, I referred to this item as being a toy primarily because it started out as a toy. However, after giving this some thought over night, I consider this item to be more of a work of art than I do a toy. An artist can compose or play music, work on canvas, sculpt clay to make bronze castings, style automobiles or other commercial products, carve wood or do lots of other creative things. One or more master metal shapers rebuilt a child’s toy to make the masterpiece you see here. Please enjoy it like I have for several years. Thanks a lot, Bob Woodburn in Bozeman Montana USA I can ship this gorgeous custom built toy car to any country outside of the USA most economically using Priority Mail International from the United Sates Postal Service. This toy started life as a pressed steel Wyandotte Cord convertible coupe that was made in the mid to later 1930’s. This toy originally looked like the black convertible coupe that is shown with this toy and another customized Cord toy in the last 2 photos of this listing. The maroon sedan and the black convertible coupe are NOT part of this listing but are shown for your reference only. The manufacturer’s tag on the bottom indicates that this toy was built by “New Era Toys” which was a business operated by Marvin Silverstein in New Jersey. The tag describes this toy as being a “Cord 810″ with the serial number of 06 of perhaps a total of 06 produced. This tag is dated July 8, 2004 and was not signed by Marvin Silverstein or anyone else. The chances are very good that if you are looking at this listing, you probably know more about the builders of this toy than I do. If so, please enlighten me with any information you might have. Marvin Silverstein passed away back in 2010. The original stock Wyandotte Cord convertible coupe toy this was customized from had a wheelbase of around 8-1/2″ while the wheelbase of this beautiful phaeton is an inch longer at 9-1/2”. If one looks at a photo of the bottom, you can see where there is a joint on both sides of the body just in front of the fronts of both of the rear fenders. Someone was very crafty when they fabricated this beautiful toy over 15 years ago. A very nice full length floor pan was added to finish the bottom of this gem. I assume the rear section of the Wyandotte Cord convertible coupe was retained along with both rear fenders. This rear section appears to have been extensively reworked to make it match the rear section of the full sized Cord phaeton. The windshield is completely different from the stock Wyandotte Cord toy windshield. It is a very good representation of the very graceful full Cord windshield. It is strong and very nicely done from steel and is covered with bright metal foil rather than being chrome plated. This same bright metal foil was used to make the gravel guards on the fronts of both of the rear fenders. The outside door handles look quite familiar to me but I can’t yet recall what older toy they are from. This toy has a very nicely done and authentically detailed dash with a pair of glove boxes on the outer ends of the dash and 4 large round instruments in the center just like the real Cord had. This toy has a 4 spoke rather than the correct 3 spoke steering wheel and horn ring that were used on the full sized Cord automobiles. Please also notice the very well done front and rear seats that have vertical piping that closely matches the seats on the original car. Please also notice that this fine toy has dual doors on the top of the cowl just like the full sized Cord automobiles had. Everything from the bottom of the windshield ahead is from the original Wyandotte Cord convertible coupe toy as are the wood wheels. The wheel covers on the right side are actually from a Doepke MG and look amazingly like the original Cord wheel covers. They have 15 holes in them while the original Cord wheel covers had only 12 holes. Nevertheless, they add a very distinctive and quite authentic touch to this fine toy. I have no idea why this toy was built with wheel covers on the right side only. I can only guess that whoever ordered this beauty from Marvin may have wanted it to look like the original Wyandotte toy on the left side and look more like the real Cord automobile on the right side. These Doepke MG wheel covers are available if the new owner prefers to have them on both sides of this gorgeous toy. The front and rear bumpers are very nice replacements for the original bumpers that Wyandotte used on their original 1930’s toy. This toy measures 14-1/2″ in overall length by 4-3/4″ wide and 4-1/4″ tall. The white tires are newer ones made from silicone rubber and have no lettering on either sidewall. When one displays this fine piece, they should block it up to keep the tires from touching anything and forming flat spots on them. When it comes to rating the condition of this treasure, I would rate it as being about a 9.6 on a scale of 10. The paint is very nice with only a couple of paint chips. One is at the very back of the right rear fender. Since all Cord automobiles had front wheel drive, this toy was built in a similar way. The original Cord car had the transmission right behind the front bumper and it was covered with a sheet metal cover. This toy has a similar cover and it has a pair of tiny 1/16″ paint chips at the center where the front bumper touched the paint and chipped it some time ago. I bought all three of the toys shown in the last two photos of this listing at an auction several years ago when I had a lot of enthusiasm for Cord automobiles and for collecting vehicles in general. My interests and priorities have changed in the last two years so I have hundreds if not thousands of great items to sell here now so please watch my listings here on eBay. This is my second favorite of the three Cord toys I am now selling. This is the 1937 model 812 that had a supercharged engine with a pair of functional stainless steel exhaust pipes exiting both sides of the hood and disappearing into each of the front fenders. This toy has a reasonably good representation of that very distinctive functional external exhaust system. I have no idea how many of these supercharged Cord phaeton toys Marvin Silverstein made so please enlighten me if you have knowledge of the production numbers of the Cords he produced. This may be your only chance to acquire a beautiful supercharged Cord phaeton toy like this.
